Each woman ovulates only 1 egg with her menstrual cycle each month, and loses several eggs with it. If pregnancy does not develop, the cycle ends with menstrual bleeding. Egg freezing is a process that allows eggs, which are female reproductive cells, to be collected, frozen and stored for future use. For this purpose, oocyte vitrification (Freezing technique) is performed with mature eggs obtained after ovarian stimulation.
In Centrum IVF Center; In women diagnosed with cancer, egg freezing is performed when the ovaries need to be removed and in cases where the AMH level is low.
Female reproductive cells are called eggs. Every girl child is born with egg cells that are located in her ovary while developing in the mother’s womb. Throughout life it can only use these innately existing egg cells. If there is a genetic predisposition in the family, such as a history of early menopause, an early decrease in egg reserve can be seen even at a young age. Apart from that;
If chemotherapy or radiotherapy-derived treatments have been performed or are planned to be performed due to some diagnosed cancer-type diseases, egg freezing should be considered if an operation that may require cyst operation involving the ovaries or removal of ovarian tissue has been performed or is planned to be performed.
Egg freezing in women provides an advantage in terms of fertility preservation in cases such as those who do not have a recent pregnancy or marriage plan but have a low AMH level.
Egg freezing technology allows a woman to increase the age of motherhood.
Women who have frozen their eggs within the framework deemed appropriate by the laws of the Republic of Turkey can become pregnant at any age when they are ready to become mothers. The frozen egg cell carries the characteristics of the age at which it was frozen. For this reason, the babies who will come into the world will be healthy.
How is Egg Freezing Done?
After the ovaries are stimulated in a controlled manner with the medication that lasts for an average of 10-14 days, egg collection is performed under anesthesia. After this process, the obtained egg cells are frozen by performing vitrification (rapid) freezing method.
How Long Can Frozen Eggs Be Stored?
The storage period is 1 year (the period can be extended to 5 years with the approval of the patient every year, after 5 years the approval of the Ministry of Health is required). If the person whose eggs have been frozen has decided not to use the eggs anymore and does not want to continue their storage, the only option is to destroy the eggs. For this, it is necessary to apply to the IVF center and submit a petition stating the reason for the destruction and having their signature. Upon this, the Ministry of Health is notified and the eggs are destroyed.
