People Who’ll try IVF treatment for the First Time

Our main purpose is you to get pregnant in the first cycle of the IVF Treatment and give birth to a healthy baby. Unfortunately, the success rate of IVF in the world and also in our country isn’t 100%. The chances of getting pregnant in the first cycle is around 35-40% even if everything goes very well. And to achieve a successful IVF treatment, the negative factors should be defaecated.

With which factors is the success of IVF treatment connected?

It depends on a number of factors concerning both the male partner and the female

partner. The most important of these factors is the age of the female partner. Because

the quality of the eggs obtained depends on the age and the quality of the embryo

is the most important factor. When the female is older than 42-43 the success chance

scales down to under 5%. Another important factor is the status of male’s semen cells.

Other than these, the ongoing illnesses such as goiter, diabetes, obesity, illnesses in the

ovary, weakness of the ovarian reserve, or the past intrauterine operations or illnesses

could affect the success rate negatively.

 In summary,

– Age of the female

– Ovarian reserve

– Condition of the sperms

– Condition of the Fallopian tubes

– Medical disorders are the main factors that affect the success rate on IVF.

So what should be expected in this process?

First of all, it is really important to know why the IVF treatment is chosen. Since that it is

not always the rightest option for everyone, it is really important to be clear about the

decision. After deciding to that, the first things to do are to avoid stress and negative

thoughts. In this process, you should stay away from alcohol and cigarettes, and take

heart for it.

Which tests are performed in the beginning?

* Anti Mullerian Hormone (AMH) to detect the ovarian reserve,

* TSH for thyroid disorders

* fasting glucose

* prolactin

* Blood cell count

* Tests to detect STD and other infectious diseases (Hepatitis-B, Hepatitis-C, HIV)

* Intrauterine radiography (HSG) if necessary.

* office hysteroscopy (examining the intrauterine cavity with a medical camera to cure any problems if necessary)

* Analysis of spermatozoon following the 2-7 days of sexual abstinence

* Other specific tests than mentioned above are only asked to be performed only if

necessary (such as: coagulation test, chromosome analysis, sperm DNA test etc.)

When the treatment is started? How many days does it take? What to be expected

during this process?

The treatment is started following the 2nd or 3rd day of menstruation. But it could be

also started at the 21st day following the menstruation regarding to the chosen method.

The first option is generally chosen, and the treatment starts with the daily injections on

the belly. After the daily injections of 10-15 days, the “triggering injection” is performed

when the follicles inside the ovarian are enlarged enough. After 36 hours to this last injection, the eggs are collected under anesthesia. At the same time, the spermatozoas are

collected from the male, and they are injected into the eggs. This insemination process

is kept track of for 4-5 days and in the end of this process, the best embryos are

transferred into uterus.

  1. Upsizing of the follicles with daily injections
  2. Collection of the eggs
  3. Fertilization of the collected eggs with collected sperm cells.
  4. Obtaining an embryo with fertilized eggs
  5. Transfer of the embryos into uterus

* Which embryos are transferred into uterus? How are the best ones detected?

The eggs that were fertilized with collected sperm cells are kept in a special device

called “incubator” at the laboratory environment. During the tracking of the fertilized

eggs, the ones that are segmented the best are noted at the first-time. Afterwards,

embryos that are detected with the scoring system to be of the best quality are

separated to be transferred. In our center, we use 5th day embryos which are also
